The Institute of Mathematics and Applications was
established by Govt. of Orissa on the 27th May 1999 (vide resolution of Govt. of Orissa; Science & Technology Department No. 368-ST-I -(SC)-159/98 dated 31st May 1999 with some aims and objectives. (Published in Orissa Gazette No. 18, July 23, 1999/SRAVANA 1, 1921). The Institute has been registered on 28.3.2000 under provision of Registration of Societies Act 1860 with Registration no. 20851 /187 of 1999-2000.Thanks to the logical precision of
Mathematics, there is hardly any branch of knowledge today that is not being enriched by the mathematical tools. Therefore, mathematics as a creative human endeavor, which is at once primitive and pervasive, is responsible for the upliftment of human resource culminating in all round development of society in a very significant way throughout the ages.
The fledgling Institute of Mathematics and Applications has been making an all out effort to improve the culture of
Mathematics problem solving at school level. The Institute of Mathematics has been implementing a good number of programmes for the students from primary level to post graduate studies. The teachers are also involved in the programmes. It also conducts intensive research work in the field of mathematics. In some IIT's the students from Orissa constitute a majority of mathematics students doing Ph.D.
No doubt the Institute making all out effort to keep the standard of
Mathematics of Orissa high in all India level.
